Working Portable, Battery Powered from Front Patio

Working from front drive using FT817 on my lap and using the Gap Titan DX Vertical on the roof of the house.  I have a union in the coax in a weatherproof box at the entrance to the house which I use to hook into the FT817 or the IC-706Mk2G.  Sitting on the drive, listening to the breeze in the trees and the birds singing while operating QRP makes for a relaxing afternoon. Notice my old Chow, Lady, looking out my pants cuff.

I usually use the Outbacker on a tripod sitting at the end of the patio extended thru the lattice roof but sometimes I cable into my XYL's Cushcraft MA5V at the other end of the patio.  Then, I don't have to change the wanderlead every time I want to change bands.  The grey box on the table under the speaker is an LDG RT-11 autotuner.  Another extremely fine product!

Very peaceful, quiet and there is a small pond with a waterfall on the other side of the shrubs. I think this is my
favorite place to sit and play.  Thanks for working me!

I power my rigs from either a marine battery box that I built or a commercial gelcell battery box that I bought on closeout at Sams's Club.  I simply took a deep cycle marine battery and put it in a protective plastic carrying case and added a 300W inverter and a 12V meter to the case.  It works great and lasts a long long time.  If u mount it to a lightweight chrome frame 2 wheel dolly it is easy to move about.  It is NOT something u are going to take hiking or backpacking but when you get older your camping is done by driving up to the campsite.  This works wonderfully for that purpose.

Here's the battery box I found on closeout at Sam's Club.  It had a dead 40AH battery inside, but I found a 55AH gel cell that was the same size. So I now have a 55AH battery with a 600w inverter built in for fans and lamps and laptops.  This runs my rigs longer than I'm going to be portable at the low power levels that I operate.  I usually run 5W with the FT-817 and 10W or 20W with the IC-706Mk2G.  But, come Field Day, these two battery packs will probably run my rigs, my fans and lamps for the entire event.  I'm going to find out, anyway!  <Grin>
